Karnataka Draught:PEople Sleep near Borewell


IMPACT OF DROUGHT: Residents of Agrahara village on Kolar-Malur road, 70 km from Bangalore, sleep near a borewell waiting for water. The only borewell in the village comes to life in the wee hours when power is switched on. The villagers head for the borewell with bedsheets, pillows and pots soon after dinner. Karnataka is facing a severe drought, a reminder of the grim one in 1999. The government has declared 123 of the 175 taluks in 22 districts drought-affected
