Son of a businessman, Pritesh wanted to see himself in a white apron and a stethoscope around his neck. "I studied on a regular basis. I'd like to join Mysore Medical College as this will give me a chance to stay with my family as well. I also love painting landscapes and sceneries," said Pritesh. Through CET, I would like to get into Bangalore Medical College," said Veeresh, who loves watching Discovery channel as it acts as a stress buster. Son of a veterinary doctor and homemaker, Veeresh wants to be a urologist. "I studied hard during the past 2-3 months and worked on my weak points. I am ecstatic about the CET result," signed off Veeresh. After topping the Science stream in pre-university exam, now it's CET. Her father, who lives in Shimoga, is yet to meet her. "He might come this Saturday. I am dying to meet him," Deepa said. She is waiting for the AIEEE results on June 15. If she fails to make it, she will opt for electronics at RV College of Engineering. "These two years were hectic. I didn't get time to study at home till January... It was college and tuitions all the way… I wanted engineering because I hate biology. I prefer to work out problems and find solutions." He’s decided on BE in Computer Science, to nurture his childhood dream of becoming an IAS officer. “After BE, I’ll work hard to reach my goal. I want to serve society and solve their problems, and found that becoming an IAS officer is the only way,” said Raj. This animal lover says her parents are her role models and she would also like to be a successful medical practitioner like them. ARCHITECTURE CREATIVITY IS PART OF HER Naksha S | Rank 1 QE-95%, NATA-69%, TOTAL-82%  Mount Carmel PU College, Bangalore      This 18-year-old has lived up to her name. Naksha always desired to be an architect and sketch a superstructure some day. With a knack for writing, Naksha says she's inherited her creative talent from her parents. "My father is an architect and mother, a writer. I always wanted to be an architect. I am eyeing CEPT Ahmedabad, after I scored 138 out of 200 in NATA. I would like to take up a degree course in architecture as other streams are considered subordinate," says Naksha, who also played chief editor of her college magazine. Some day, Naksha wants to design architecture which will be counted among the 'wonders of the world'. "I am waiting to design a building that will hold its own significant place and will be looked up for years to come," said Naksha. "I scored 141 out of 200 in NATA. I feel it's hard work from the beginning that pays off at the end. If you are interested in the subject, you are bound to do well. I am looking forward to studying at CEPT Ahmedabad, and designing some skyscrapers," said Pavan. It's his love for sketching and drawing that fetched him the magic rank. "I love drawing pictures of cine stars and buildings. I always enjoyed sketching during my leisure time, and I'm happy that it's paid off," said Pavan. A LOVE FOR BUILDINGS Prithvi D Hegde | Rank 3 QE-93%, NATA-67.5%, TOTAL-80.25%  National Hill View Public School, Bangalore      She has an eye for detail. An aspiring architect, Prithvi says it is important to notice details around you in order to be a good architect. "I always felt I had it in me. Especially the way I could notice details, not only of buildings, but of anything and everything around. Although I did appear for the medical stream, architecture has been my preference. I have also written the BITS Pilani exam, and am expecting a good result," said Prithvi. Apart from buildings, books by Paulo Coelho and fiction pull Prithvi with the same intensity. "I love reading books. I didn't let go of this hobby even while I was preparing for NATA. I scored 135 out of 200 and am looking forward to joining CEPT Ahmedabad," says Prithvi. Record CET passes make engg, medical quest tough

Bangalore: The competition for those coveted medical and engineering seats has just got tougher with more students becoming eligible in this year’s CET. Never in the recent past had Karnataka seen so many students vying for professional-courses seats. 
    The results, announced on Wednesday, show there are about 2,000 more students eligible for medical and 5,000 more for engineering than last year. Of the 1,18,780 students who wrote 
CET, 15,776 students are eligible for medicine; 59,011 for ISM and homeopathy; 78,694 for engineering; and 836 for architecture. This is against 13,666 and 73,242 last year for medical and engineering respectively. The increase can be attributed to the improved PU pass percentage this year. 
    The seat matrix and the increase in the number of seats available will be announced by July 10. There are more girls eligible for medical seats than boys; while boys hold sway over engineering. 
    Bangalore shines, with four medical toppers out of the top 10 ranks, and six engineering toppers. This includes the first rank in both streams. The capital swept architecture, with eight out of the top ten ranks. 
    Other districts that have done well are Dakshina Kannada, Mysore, Udupi and Shimoga — probably because of the availability of good coaching. On the other hand, Yadgir had only 45 students who became eligible for medical counselling, Koppal had 38 and Kodagu 91; for engineering, these numbers were 244, 291 and 542 respectively.

CET put off to May 21-23 Results On June 6, Hall Tickets Will Be Sent By May 11

Bangalore: Throwing the academic schedule of more than 6 lakh students out of gear, the Karnataka government on Tuesday postponed the Common Entrance Test (CET) to May 21, 22 and 23. The test was earlier scheduled to be held on May 3 and 4. The postponement is a ripple effect of PU question paper leaks and the valuators’ strike. 
    The CET results will be published on June 6. Verification of documents at helpline centres will begin on June 13. 
    Admission tickets will be sent on or after May 11. The students can also download their admission tickets from the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) website. The schedules notified in the CET-2012 brochure for seat selection, and other procedures, are unchanged. 
    The academic calendar of the department of pre-university education has gone awry due to unprecedented developments. The question paper leaks delayed the schedule by a week. The situation was aggravated by the PU lecturers going on strike. The department had planned to announce 
the results by April 26 — before the students wrote CET. 
CETBACK FOR STUDENTS 
• With CET dates rejigged to May 21-23, students planning to take several other entrance exams face severe time squeeze 

• Between May 5 and 27, more than half-adozen entrance tests to KLE varsity, Armed Forces Medical College and all-India medical and dental admissions, among others, are scheduled 

• The delayed CET calendar likely to affect the rollout of BA, BSc, BCom academic calendar too TESTING TIMES Finding new CET dates was tough for KEA 
Bangalore: With the national exam calendar packed, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) had a tough task finding new dates for the Common Entrance Test (CET). 
    The KLE University All-India Entrance Test — 2012 is scheduled for May 5; Armed 
Forces Medical College and ComedK entrance tests are on May 6; All-India Pre-Medical/Dental Entrance Exam and Common Law Entrance Test are on May 13; Banaras Hindu University has it on May 16; Christian Medical College, Vellore, has scheduled it for May 18; Amrita University on May 19; St Johns Medical College and JIPMER entrance tests are on May 27. 
    The KEA also had to counter-check with the CBSE as the AIEEE online window was between May 7 and 26. 
    The postponement of CET was inevitable because the same lecturers are going to be involved in the logistics. Pretest work for CET usually starts by April 23. This includes the despatch of OMR sheets, question papers and hall tickets. There is a series of meetings during this period. The PU lecturers perform different roles and PU colleges become the centre of activity. 
    CET is taken by around 1.5 lakh science students for entry into medical, dental and engineering colleges. This is the first time that seat selection process will take place online. 
    By the time the students sit for CET, they would have already known the results of the other competitive exams like IIT-JEE (May 18). 
    Nithin Kumar K, a student of Jnanodaya PU College who is taking CE, the Comed-K test and AIEEE, says: "Now I go for tuitions focused on CET as it was supposed to be the first and most important exam for me. But now AIEEE will be my first exam. Even when all other exams get over, we cannot relax and have to continue our preparations for CET. We started with intense preparations last March. The tension will go on till August. There is so much confusion. It's so frustrating!” 
    In the meantime, valuation of II PU answerscripts has resumed with more than 90% of the lecturers reporting to work. Some of them, who had gone to their hometowns or had travelled to Bangalore for the protests, are yet to reach the valuation centres.
